Traditional Indian Art Workshops in Spring and Summer 2013

In response to a resounding success of the art workshops presented by Hum Sub Inc. and the Town of Cary in Summer 2012, Hum Sub is proud to announce another offering in Spring and Summer 2013. As part of the Town of Cary’s Programs and Classes, Hum Sub will be offering introductory and advanced level classes on three traditional Indian art forms (Madhubani, Warli and Chittara) . Class Details:

INTRODUCTION TO TRIBAL ART FROM INDIA – WARLI, MADHUBANI, AND CHITTARA (1 CLASS)

This will be a theory-only class for people who want to get an overview of all the three styles of tribal art – Warli, Madhubani, and Chittara. It will be a very interactive class with power point presentations, videos, display of samples of art in the three forms, along with time for discussion. Each participant will receive some material to take away along with a surprise gift.

INTRODUCTION TO WARLI(1 CLASS)

Learn about Warli tribal art from the state of Maharashtra in India. Warli paintings have a basic graphic vocabulary of circles, triangles, and squares, which become building blocks for this art form almost unchanged through the ages. A distinctive feature of Warli art is that it is stark. With brown mud backgrounds and drawings in white, the paintings bring an element of freshness to the day–to–day events that they symbolize. Create your own masterpiece to take home.

INTRODUCTION TO MADHUBANI (1 CLASS)

Learn about the Madhubani painting style from the state of Bihar in India. A prominent subject of Madhubani painting is nature. Explore this colorful and busy style of painting natural objects like the sun, animals, birds, and flowers. Create your own masterpiece to take home.

INTRODUCTION TO CHITTARA (1 CLASS)

Chittarra is a form of intricate painting done on walls of houses and community buildings by tribal women of Malnad Deevaru in state of Karnataka in India. These paintings are done for special occasions such as weddings, festivals and other auspicious days by the women folk of the community as a sociocultural practice. Discover this little known art form and create your own masterpiece to take home.
